The World Wide Web... Fast becoming a major
source of travel planning information, the extent of web resources
is amazing, and growing each day. Unfortunately web sites tend
to change daily as well and while these addresses are good at
the time of writing, your experience may vary.
Rampant Scotland IndexThe BEST! Over 6,000 links to things Scottish. This site is a treasure trove of interesting, informative and useful information if Scotland is in your travel plans, or simply on your mind. Cool graphics, too... cute little animations that will make you laugh. There's a lively newsletter as well.
BritanniaBritannia magazine is packed with articles on British life, customs, places to visit, nostalgia, recipes, Coronation Street, "Great Briton" personalities, features on returning to the UK to live and even a way to find those lost pals and relatives!
A brash, good humoured website, with TONS of links to UK travel information, and many another thing that takes Dr Dave's fancy. Plus the option to customize your interface to suit your system.
J.C. Nash - What I did on my vacation!
An amazing collection of information, opinion, and serendipitous website links based on J.C.'s 5363 miles of touring in Britain. Also, detailed suggested itineraries.
A new website dedicated to old ways: the history of roads in Ontario. Fascinating articles about how highway features we now take for granted came to be.
Comprehensive and informative... typically AA. The site features an extensive travel planning section where you can pick a region of Britain and search for suitable accommodation, mostly hotels but some B&Bs too. Pack a lunch before you visit this site!
The new official British Tourist Authority gateway to tourist info is excellent, full of information and very attractive.
Pure Dead Brilliant! No cute cartoons, hardly any graphics at all, just tons of links to Glaswegiana.
Nice graphics, and lots of information, but much of it geared to tourist operators and potential investors. The cold dead hand of officialdom strikes again. Still, it's worth delving the gold from the dross at this site if you are going to Wales.
Northern Ireland Tourist Board
Northern Ireland is on my life-list of places I must go, but haven't as yet. If it's the same for you, this is a good place to start. The NITB website used to have a typically Irish twinkle in it's eye. Now it's moved upmarket. . . very, very slick. A showcase for the webmaster, but totally out of character with the unpretentious, friendly, down-to-earth reality of Ireland. Bah, humbug!
Irish Tourist Board (Bord Fáilte)
An excellent starting point. You can even make your own customised brochure, or enter a contest to spin the best yarn about Ireland.

London sites http://www.tourist.co.uk/ and http://ukplus.co.uk/londonmall/ Both these sites are lively and full of good information about the city. Restaurant guides, what's on at the theatres, special events... it's all here. When a man is tired of London, he is tired of life - but to be tired IN London is very much to be expected. |
